October is a month to watch scary movies and get spooked by neighborhood decor. What’s spookier than the thought of our precious blue Lake Tahoe turning to murky grays and browns from stormwater runoff? Yikes!
No need to fear, Pipe Keepers and the League to Save Lake Tahoe are here! These modern day nature heroes are putting on an event to raise awareness and educate the community on how to help prevent stormwater runoff from ruining the lake.
The event is the League to Save Lake Tahoe Spooky Stormwater Fall Festival at the Sidellis Lake Tahoe Brewery and Restaurant, and it is bound to be a hauntingly good time. There will be family-friendly games, small bites provided, chances to win prizes, and the opportunity to chat with Pipe Keeper stormwater experts.
Who are these Pipe Keeper experts and what’s the deal with stormwater you ask? Well as the official Keep Tahoe Blue League to Save Lake Tahoe website puts it, “Pipe Keepers is a citizen science program to address the threat of stormwater pollution entering Lake Tahoe. Runoff from rain storms and snowmelt is the largest source of pollution that degrades lake clarity. League staff will train you to survey local neighborhoods and collect stormwater samples during rain and snowmelt events.” See full article here.
When: Thursday, October 12, 2017 from 4:00pm – 7:00pm
Where: Sidellis Lake Tahoe at 3350 Sandy Way, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150
Cost: Free! To register for the event click here.
