Labor Day at the Lake: Events That The Whole Family Will Enjoy

Although the season is wrapping up, summer isn’t over quite yet! It’s almost Labor Day Weekend and there are some great events the whole family will enjoy here in South Lake Tahoe.

Why do we celebrate Labor Day? Well, Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.

So, let Lake Tahoe celebrate you! Come rest, relax, recreate and enjoy the last days of summer. There are some awesome events in town everyone is sure to enjoy:

Midway Arts & Music Festival:

The Midway Arts & Music Festival, located in Heavenly Village at Stateline boasts three stages of live entertainment. This year will also be the first Midway Festival 5k fun run!

Labor Day Weekend Sidewalk Sale:

After you listen to a little music at the Midway Festival stroll over to The Shops at Heavenly and check out this four day sidewalk sale. With so many treasures at low prices it’ll be hard to leave empty handed!

The new season brings an end to motorized boats so get out on your paddle board or kayaks uninterrupted by large frequent wakes. Soon the temperatures will lower enough to enjoy the nearby hot springs.

What to do after labor day? Before the snow returns and the roads recessed take advantage of what feels like the City of South Lake all to yourself.

Downtown Cafe: A Beloved Local Favorite!

Downtown Cafe, established in 1991, is a local gem serving up some of the best comfort food in town! With true Southern roots, this diner boasts some of the best down home cooking in town. Here you can custom order almost anything! Enjoy breakfast all day, the Meatloaf special on Thursday, and some of the best sides and desserts on the South Shore.

Juevos Rancheros at Downtown Cafe. A tortilla bed on beans with tortilla chips melted shredded cheese and eggs any style.

Under new management after 28 years we wanted to give a shout out to this beloved Meyers diner and a warm send off to local owners Barb and Billy – we hope their retirement is as filling as the comfort foods they served the community for so many years. We also wanted to welcome Cara the new local owner of this community staple!

Many things are the same at the diner but there have also been some updates. Taking credit cards for the first time, tourists and locals are delighted to see the fresh paint, and new floors. Fear not loyal local, the things we know and love about Downtown Cafe will stay the same. New owner Cara states, “the locals love it and we want to keep it that way”. Billy’s famous sweet tea is still his recipe and the crew in the back is the same cooking up your same favorite meals; it still feels like home.

Downtown Cafe is not just a part of the community but a pillar of support for local artists, adorning the walls with their paint, photography, jewelry, stickers and garden accessories on consignment. Take home your Tahoe souvenirs and support local artists like Co2 Kustom and Fat Cat Glass and Resin.
