Tip for Uber & Lyft Users in South Lake Tahoe

Uber finally worked its way up to South Lake Tahoe and crept over the state line to Nevada. Not a small feat considering the many (namely taxi drivers) who opposed Uber’s presence. If you’re an avid Uber user and plan to use the service while visiting South Lake Tahoe, there is one major tip you should know. While the ridesharing companies, Lyft and Uber have been approved and operating in Nevada since September of 2015, it’s just not as easy going between California and Nevada in South Lake Tahoe.

In order to operate as an Uber or Lyft driver, you must have a driver’s license registered to the state in which you drive. Sounds reasonable right? Well, if you’re staying in California and planning a night at the casinos just over the state line, you’ll need to plan your trip accordingly, as your California Driver can only take you to the state line. Likewise, your Nevada driver can only take you to the Nevada state border and you’re on your own from there. Taxi’s on the other hand, will be able to get you from point A to point B regardless of state lines.

So for your next trip to South Lake, remember to have your rides planned out and if you’re traveling between California and Nevada, pink your ride accordingly.

Tahoe Mountain Sports Biathlon is on March 13 at Auburn Ski Club Training Center at 10 a.m. The distances are as follows: 12.5km for pro/elite, 4.5km for novice/junior (younger than age 18) and stadium loops for youth (age 12 and younger). Pro/Elite racers must have Redbook Certification and their own rifle to enter. There is a mandatory safety clinic for novices. Register at athleteinyou.com.

AMGEN Tour of California

Known as the American Tour De France, the AMGEN Tour of California has begun! Many California residents are able to catch a glimpse of these cyclists rolling through their town. Begining in Sacramento, and working their way up and down California, these bikers have made appearances in several Northern California towns, along the Central Coast, and are heading even farther north for a brief stint in South Lake Tahoe. If you’re going to be in South Lake Tahoe this weekend, try to catch a glimpse of the show on Friday May 15th. If you are interested in more than just spectating volunteer positions are still open. And if biking isn’t your thing, don’t worry, South Lake Tahoe has plenty of activities going on this weekend. Keep in mind bikers will be out in full force so be sure to share the road!

Weekend Storm Brings 2 ft of Snow

The storm in Tahoe this past weekend dusting the Sierras with as much as two feet of snow, bringing winter back to Lake Tahoe and likely ensuring the 2014-15 ski season will last into spring. Below we list the snowfall at each ski area. WARNING: you will want to race to Tahoe after reading this!

Sierra-at-Tahoe, located in Twin Bridges, Calif., south of South Lake Tahoe, reported 17 inches from the storm at its high-elevation areas.

Northstar California, located between Truckee and North Lake Tahoe, reported 16 inches, as did Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe, located between Reno and Incline Village.

Kirkwood Mountain Resort reported 14 inches from the storm, and Boreal Mountain Resort, in Soda Springs, reported 12 inches of snow.

On the South Shore, Heavenly Mountain Resort also reported 1 foot of snow.

To hit the slopes, you are a short 4 miles to Heavenly Resort and 12 miles to Sierra at Tahoe Lake Tahoe. water sports your thing?
